The story so far...

Alford Community Web was originally published about 6 years ago. It was created by a group of people from Alford, but the actual web pages were constructed by one person. Circumstances changed for this individual and he was unwilling to continue the lonely task after about 2 years. Eventually the Alford Community Web site became 'out of date' and was taken down. We, the new Community Web Group, are in the initial stages of revamping the site.

The Community Development Group, CDG, (the Management Committee for Community Learning in Alford) have agreed to act as a steering group. The Web Group is directly under the control of the CDG with two members from the CDG on the Web Group Steering Committee. Its main tasks are to provide direction, oversee the content and help with funding.

The way the new Web Group aim to operate is to:

  1. Identify sections for the site
  2. Appoint volunteers to manage each section (section heads)
  3. Each section head is responsible for getting a small group together (if necessary), to collect content (write the script, identify graphics etc.) and create the necessary web pages
  4. The pages are to be reviewed by the CDG and approved prior to uploading to the site

Creating the necessary web pages is in the hands of one individual at the present time, but it is hoped that the section heads will be eager to gain training so that they can construct the pages themselves. Training, which may be funded through the CDG, is being sought. It is further hoped that each section will be managed by at least two people so that there is some hope for sustainability.
